Antakharana symbol
Non-traditional Reiki healing symbol. This symbol has been added to the system of Reiki by some Western Reiki teachers such as Arthur Robertson and is used in Usui/Tibetan Reiki as a meditation method. The antakharana is a two dimensional cube with three 7's on its face surface. Myth has it that this symbol comes from Tibet and China.

Araki, George
One of Hawayo Takata's 22 Reiki Master students. He became a Reiki Master in 1979. According to Robert Fueston, George initially became a Reiki Master when he was head of the Department of Natural Healing at San Francisco State University and was interested in completing a study about it. He did not teach many people preferring to refer them to either Fran Brown or Shinobu Saito. For more information about his teacher and other fellow students click here.

Attunements
An attunement is the Western method of initiating students into the system of Reiki. Attunements are integral to the system of Reiki. There are many different attunement methods as teachers have added to or taken away from the traditional process. It is believed that Chujiro Hayashi may have created the attunement process that is used in the West. Attunements were initially called reiju in Japan but when the system moved to the West this changed and they became known initiations, empowerments, attunements or transformations. Something as profound as an attunement cannot be analyzed on the human level - merely experienced. As an attunement is a powerful clearing of the body's meridians it is impossible to be able to undo this or 'wipe-it-out'. Each attunement you receive takes you a step further to re-aligning yourself with the natural function of your body - mentally, physically, emotionally or spiritually. For these reasons it is also impossible to 'make' an attunement last for a limited period of time. An attunement (or reiju) is also one of the five major elements of the system of Reiki.
