Gassho (lit. Japanese) to place the two palms together. This is a Japanese gesture of respect, gratitude, veneration and humility. This simple act balances both the body and mind.
Gateway Symbol A non-traditional symbol taught at the 7th level in the 7 Level System. Also known as the infinity symbol.
Gedoku Ho A similar technique to tanden chiryo ho. One hand is placed on the front of the hara and the other hand on the back of the hara. This technique is written about in the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai's shiori.
Gendai Reiki Ho This is a branch created by Doi Hiroshi and is a fusion between East and West. Frans Stiene (co-founder of the International House of Reiki) studied Gendai Reiki with Doi Hiroshi.
Gnosa Symbol A non-traditional symbol used in Karuna Reiki, Tera Mai, and Karuna Ki. It is said to connect the higher self with lower self, improve learning ability, communication and increase creativity.
Gokai (lit. Japanese) Five precepts.
Gokai No Sho A copy of a work of calligraphy of the 5 precepts as written by Hayashi Chujiro.
Gokai Sansho (lit. Japanese) to sing the 5 precepts three times. This is a Buddhist term. It is still practiced by the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai at the end of their meetings.
Gokui Kaiden Teacher level in Gendai Reiki Ho, Doi Hiroshi's branch of Reiki.
Grandmaster The name Grandmaster in conjunction with Reiki came into being with the advent of The Reiki Alliance. Phyllis Lei Furumoto, Hawayo Takata's granddaughter, received the title 'Office of the Grandmaster' from this association in 1983/4. This term was never used by Usui Mikao or Hayashi Chujiro.
Gray, Reverend Beth Beth Gray completed all three Reiki Levels with Hawayo Takata. In 1976, Beth Gray, ordained Hawayo Takata on the basis of the spiritual nature of her teachings. Gray Book Also called the Leiki booklet by some. Alice Takata Furumoto compiled this booklet in 1982. It includes notes and photographs of Hawayo Takata, a copy of Hawayo Takata's certificate signed by Hayashi Chujiro, a list of Hawayo Takata's teacher students and the Ryoho Shishin - Healing Method's Guideline. Hayashi wrote this guide especially for distribution in America. It shows hand positions for treating specific illnesses.
Gray, John Harvey One of Hawayo Takata's 22 Reiki Master students. He was initiated on the 6th of October 1976 in Woodside, California. He was the 3rd Reiki Master initiated by Hawayo Takata. Gyoho (Gyotse) Claimed to be Usui Mikao's Buddhist name by some. The name is written on the memorial stone. It has previously been translated as a 'pen nam' or 'extra name'.
Gyosei (lit. Japanese) created (by the Emperor). Gyosei is used to denote waka (poetry) written by an Emperor. It is said that the Meiji Emperor had written over 100,000 waka and his Empress Shoken over 30,000. Usui Mikao had added over 100 gyosei from the Meiji Emperor to his Reiki Ryoho Hikkei for students to recite for spiritual purposes. The Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai recite gyosei at the beginning of each meeting.
Gyosho Kanji drawn in modern, semi cursive style. A simplification of the standard style of writing kanji, allowing it to be written in a more flowing and faster manner.
