He has also been a translator for Hiroshi Doi and is a Pure Land Buddhist monk. He has translated the Mikao Usui Memorial stone that can be viewed on this website. Independent Reiki Master
Independent Reiki Master is a term used to describe people who are Reiki Masters that are not aligned with a particular branch of Reiki. They might use an eclectic approach drawing on techniques from many schools. The vast majority of Reiki Masters in the West are Independent Reiki Masters. Some of them are aware of the origins of what they teach while others are not.

Initiation
This word is often used to describe the Japanese reiju and/or the Western attunement process.

Intent
Reiki is an intent driven system. Intent is the key to working with Reiki in healing and attunements. Intent ensures the outcome. The practitioner does not need to work hard to make Reiki work. The intent is there once the thought to place the hands on the body takes place. It is this intent which sparks the movement of energy. Ki, or energy, follows the mind. As far as Reiki is concerned, if the practitioner intends to use Reiki in the manner one was taught, then that is what will happen. If a practitioner intends to treat a client with Reiki then that person will receive a Reiki treatment.

International House of Reiki
Reiki centre founded by Frans and Bronwen Stiene that teaches Usui Reiki Ryoho. For more information about the centre click here.

Ishikuro, Iris
One of Hawayo Takata's 22 Reiki Master student student. She was the 10th Master to be trained by Hawayo Takata and was her cousin. She was told to only train 3 people to the Master level. Iris Ishikuro only trained 2 people to this level, her daughter and Arthur Robertson. Arthur Robertson worked with Iris Ishikuro and together they had an immense impact on the future of Reiki with their system Raku Kei Reiki. They introduced a great deal of the 'Tibetan' information into the system. This included the 'Tibetan' symbols, the Johre symbol and 'Tibetan' techniques such as breath of the fire dragon and the hui yin technique. Iris Ishikuro died in 1984.
