Jikiden Reiki Branch of Reiki taught by Tadao Yamaguchi in Kyoto, Japan. His mother Chiyoko Yamaguchi studied with Chujiro Hayashi.
Jisshu Kai (lit. Japanese) practice or training meetings. The Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai held these meetings after the shuyo kai (called kenkyu kai today).
Jodo Shu (lit. Japanese) School of the Pure Land. The goal of this Buddhist school is to be reborn in the pure land of Amida Buddha. The main practice of the Pure Land School is to recite Namu-Amida-Butsu, which is an expression of Oneness. Namu-Amida-Butsu literally translates as I take refuge in Amida Buddha. Mikao Usui is buried in a Pure Land temple in Tokyo.
Johrei Johrei began in 1935 in Japan as a spiritual healing activity by Mokichi Okada and also uses a form of reiju. A 'Johrei Reiki' was developed from Raku Kei Reiki using the Johre symbol as part of its practices and attunements. Once the Johrei fellowship discovered this illegal use of their name the system became known as Vajra Reiki.
Johre Symbol A non-traditional symbol used in Tibetan branches of the system of Reiki. Said to have been added by Iris Ishikuro who created Raku Kei Reiki with Arthur Robertson. It is said to release blockages. This symbol has been taken from the religion, Johrei and is known as White Light.
Joshin Kokyu Ho (lit. Japanese) focusing the mind with the breath. Also called hikari no kokyu ho and is a part of hatsurei ho.
Jumon (lit. Japanese) spell, incantation. This is the Japanese word used for mantra, a sound that invokes a specific energetic vibration.
