Ueshiba Morihei (1883-1969) Founder of aikido. Ueshiba is claimed to be an acquaintance of Usui Mikao. Ueshiba used kotodama in his method, not unlike Usui Mikao.

Usui Do (lit. Japanese) the way of Usui. What Usui Mikao taught was called 'Usui do'- 'the way of Usu', and what he practiced on people would have been called 'Usui teate'- meaning 'hands-on'. Early students had never heard of the word Reiki in relation to the entirety of Usui Mikao's teachings.
Usui Fuji (1908 - 1946) Usui Mikao's son. He was a teacher at the Tokyo University.
Usui Mikao (1865-1926) Usui Mikao is the founder of the system of Reiki. Usui Mikao was born on the 15th of August 1865, in the village of Taniai mura in the Yamagata district of the Gifu Prefecture, in Japan. His father's name was Uzaemon and they were from the Chiba clan. Usui Mikao is understood to have been born a Tendai Buddhist and as a child studied in a Tendai monastery. He remained Tendai all his life and is believed to have eventually have become a Tendai lay priest. Usui Mikao married Suzuki Sadako and they had two children a boy and a girl, called Fuji and Toshiko respectively. He is thought to have studied on hiei zan and practiced certain meditations on kurama yama. What Usui Mikao taught was called 'Usui do' - 'the way of Usui'. His teachings included using waka, the 5 precepts, meditations and techniques, mantras and or symbols and reiju. What he practiced on people would have been called 'Usui teate' - meaning 'hands-on' and included hands on healing. The names of 11 of the 21 teacher students of Usui Mikao have been recorded in a booklet used by the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai. For more information about Usui Mikao students click here.
Usui Reiki Ryoho (lit. Japanese) Usui Spiritual Energy Healing Method. Hawayo Takata referred to the system of Reiki she learned from Hayashi Chujiro as Usui Reiki Ryoho in a recording of 1979 telling the story of the system of Reiki. It is the name today used by practitioners whose focus is on traditional techniques as practiced in Japan.
Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai (lit. Japanese) Society of the Usui Spiritual Energy Healing Method. The Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai claims to have been created by Usui Mikao in 1922. The society still exists today, and has its seventh president.
Usui Reiki Ryoho International (URRI) A project, which began in 1999 in Vancouver. Since then it has been held in a different countries each year. Teachers who have a strong Japanese influence in their teachings have generally been invited to provide workshops. This year is likely to its last as Doi Hiroshi and Inamoto Hyakuten will no longer be teaching through it.
Usui Shiki Ryoho (lit. Japanese) the Usui way healing method. The Reiki Alliance and some Independent Reiki Masters teach under this title. Hawayo Takata used this name on the certificates she issued. It seems that she used two different names to indicate the system she taught, Usui Reiki Ryoho and Usui Shiki Ryoho.
Usui Teate (lit. Japanese) hands on healing by Usui. Usui teate would indicate what Usui Mikao did, not what he was teaching; this would have been called Usui do. According to the memorial stone Usui Mikao was a very well known healer. Even though his teachings were not about healing others rather about self-healing some of his students began to focus more on healing others e.g. Hayashi Chujiro. It seems that this is what we practice in the West. This was also the initial name used to describe the teachings that Suzuki san is passing on.
